Marine Fuel Testing Programme

Bunker fuel is one of the biggest operational costs for ships aside from crew wages. With the implementation of IMO2020 sulphur regulation of 0.50%, the quality of global fuel oil varies significantly from location to location, and thus sourcing the right fuel is a challenge. Non-compliant or contaminated fuel can adversely affect engine performance and cause serious damages that could jeopardize the safety of those onboard.

Our Marine Fuel Testing Programme (MFTP) is specially designed for ship owners and operators whose vessels receive marine bunker fuel worldwide and is capable of delivering rapid, yet accurate results to users.

MFTP serves as a machinery damage prevention and fuel management programme which highlights potential problems before they occur, thereby saving operators time and money. In addition, the programme provides assistance in complying with safety and environmental legislation, including IMO’s Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and Marine Pollution (MARPOL) regulations.

Analysis results are compared against the ISO 8217 standard for each respective fuel grade and this procedure is followed by operations and technical advice, covering:

  • Fuel usage & storage
  • On-board fuel treatment
  • Recommendations for maximising fuel efficiency
  • Detection of waste lube oils & other contaminants in the fuel
  • Fuel ignition & combustion quality

The fuel analysis reports will be sent to the customer within 24 hours after the fuel sample has been received by Maritec. We operate 365 days a year, including Weekends and Public Holidays. All participating vessels will also be provided with a free sampling kit with detailed instructions and documentation on how to collect representative samples for analysis.
